The Only Sound You Will Like Better is --- the Price

How do I cure interference?

Interference has many causes, so before we know how to cure it, we need to know how it can be generated.

1) Induced on power supply cables. Not so common these days, and usually associated with poor quality radio cassette units.

Cure: Inductance and filters on the supply leads.

2) RF born, from un-suppressed engines and components. Again, most modern vehicles are very well suppressed, and do not require more. Sometimes a panel or part of the exhaust can re-radiate, and the solution can be time-consuming to trace, and may need expert advice.

Cure: Correct suppression techniques and bonding of re-radiating panels.

3) Heavy whine etc associated with the installation of high power amplifiers. An increasingly common problem, especially amongst the DIY'ers out there.

Cure: A methodical installation and routing of all cables, and careful siting of amps etc will often cure. In worst cases, where a mis-match of voltage levels between units, graphics, and amplifiers occurs, a line driver may be required. Road Radio can advise if you think this could be your problem.

4) Poor reception of radio. Very often this is described as interference, as it may manifest itself in various ways.

Cure: Either replace the car aerial (leave the coathanger at the cleaners!) OR have the unit checked.
